CURLIN WINS!

I sure hope someone in our class listened to Professor Brown, and picked Curlin to win the Preakness. If you did, then you are sitting pretty with some extra cash in your pocket due to the win inched out by Curlin against Street Sense. Thanks to photography everyone was able to see the photo finish at the Preakness Stakes in Pimlico Race Track. I had a fantastic time at "The Freakness" hanging out with over 100,000 people in the infield surrounded by the race track. Hope everyone elses experience was as amazing as mine. God Bless the Preakness and BUAD477. Had a blast this semester, "Bloggin it UP" and livin the life with the big guy Professor Brown. Enjoy retirement and livin your life across the pond! Cheers and Thanks again. Long live Barbaro and this years Preakness winner CURLIN!

WIKI WRAP-UP!

As I wrap up this semester, I thought it would be time to check out my wikipedia articles one more time to check and see what I edited was still there or had been eliminated...

Dumb and Dumber Edit:
Believe it or not everything I added to this article is still in tact. The characters I had added from the 1st and 2nd revision as well as the information I added on the prequel to the excellent movie have not been edited or removed...Most be because I am such a D&D connoisseur.

Spring Break:
Here I added info on the new laws in Fort Lauderdale restricting spring breakers from visiting, some suggestions such on other destination such as "road trips", and help for booking your trip through StudentCity.com. All information is still available however the information about Student City has been moved to another section and the link has been removed, but still there for other Wikiers to enjoy and take advantage of.

Cocktail List:
I added new drinks to the "rum list" of Superman and Miami Vice, added some internal links to the "See Also" section of beer and glassware, and placed an external link to the "Webtender" website. With except to the webtender website, everything has been kept to the article and not edited. The external web link has been removed though due to irrelavance and lack of help. I thought it was a good page but apparently didn't meet the WIKI standards...O Well!

Bristol, CT:
ALthough my favorite article due to the fact it's my hometown two of my edits had been removed. I added information on the Northeast Regionals for the Little League taking place at Giamatti Little League Center, a picture of the legendary baseball field, Muzzy, and info on the "Battle of the Bell." However the only edit to stand the fire was the adding of the info on the Northeast Regional. Too bad I couldnt get the copyright for the Muzzy Field picture. Long-live BRISTAAAAAAAAAL, CT!

There it is, the good, the bad, and the ugly of WIKIPEDIA...may my edits always stand from here on out.

How fast is WIKI?!?

In my fellow classmate Alex's Blog he had a posting on a edit he made to the Metallica wikipedia article where he experimented on how long it would take for false information to be removed once submitted. I did a similar experiment for my own knowledge and it was pretty amazing for information that I actually thought was relevant was removed within 15 minutes of being editted and submitted. It is pretty amazing to see how fast they are monitoring these articles, but I guess they have to since Wikipedia is now used as a resource for information by everyone all over the internet. Keep up the good work WIKI!

Alone Time vs. Prime Time

Again in John Battelle's Searchblog he comments on the videos all over the news of David Hasselhoff Puking. Just like John Battelle suggests, is this stuff really news. Material like this may be better off me watching on collegehumor.com or YouTube, not necessarily on CNN. I could even see this presentable on Entertainment Tonight or another one of thos celebrity shows, because thats what it is for, entertainment, it is not really news to be broadcasted on the #1 news station. So yes I vote Alone Time, not Prime Time to be watched with unsuspecting strangers while you wait in an airport as your flight has been delayed 2 hours.

Google Search A-OK!

On May 10th the John Battelle's Searchblog pointed out a article where a Judge OKs Google Search. This article basically stated that in the court of law a judge official ruled that it was OK for employers to use Google as a background check on future or current employees. In this case a man got fired for a simple Google search performed by the HR department. The judge ruled that "the internet shouldn't get singled out for special treatment, and that it should be considered as any other research source." So for all of us out perform daily Google searches on yourself and make sure you have a clean record both on and off the internet. I recently experienced something like this where employers had admitted to checking out my facebook profile, however due to the fact I use the proper security features on facebook they were unable to find any discriminating pictures or information about myself that I wouldnt want any other "Joe Schmo" on the street to know.

TOP 5 in US

While studying for the exam I started to think about what the Top 5 sites visited in the United States were, well after a quick google search I came across some valuable information...TOP 5...Placing:

1.)Yahoo
2.)Google
3.)Myspace
4.)MSN
5.)YouTube

No real surprises but was pretty interested in the standings!

FINAL WIKI POSTS!

I have now conducted my thrid and final wiki posts on the articles I have been monitoring all semester long. For the Bristol article I added some info to the Trivia section about one of my favorite events of the year in Bristol where the two cross-town football teams compete againts each other for the Bell trophy as well as bragging rights for the rest of the year. On the Spring Break article I added some info to the Destination section which tells where some students may travel for spring break such as taking a road trip which has been growing by leaps and bounds for alternative break vacations and money savers ranging from Boston, MA or down the east coast to popular FL destinations. For the Dumb and Dumber article I added information on the prequel that says neither Jim Carey nor Jeff Daniels approved of the prequel produced. And for the final edit to the Cocktail List article I added internal links at the bottom of the page to "Beer" and "Glassware" that links to the wikipedia articles of these subjects. Thank you WIKIPEDIA for the fun all semester long. I love you now and forever ;-*

Adsense and Associates Nonsense!

It seems to me that I have successfully added the Google Adsense to my blog, however it seems I have been extremely unsuccessful in adding the Amazon Associates. I signed up for it, however it said it should take 2 to 3 days, and that was about 5 days ago, hopefully soon enough I will have it on my blog...until then this won't keep me down and I hope to finish out the semester strong in BUAD477!

Some more Wiki Edits

I have just recently edited all of my articles on Wikipedia. For the Bristol article I added a picture of the famous baseball stadium, Muzzy Field, into the gallery. On the Spring Break article I added some information on how students can book their trip through StudentCity.com. I added more characters on the Dumb and Dumber article. And thanks to one of Jen's post in her blog, I added an external link for Webtender to the list on the bottom of the Cocktail List article.

Dealcatcher

Listening to the gentlemen from dealcatcher.com was quite the experience. To think that something huge like that originally started as a hobby to help out friends from the surroundings of his own bedroom is amazing. From spending only $8 to originally run the site to now receiving a high six-figure salary a year is absolutely unbelivable. It has intrigued me as well that the creater and owner came from our very own University of Delaware...YEA BLUE HENS...DO WORK!

Wiki SB '07

In the spirit of Spring Break still, I just tackled some edits of my wikipedia articles. On the Spring Break article I added some more information about Fort Lauderdale adding more laws to prevent "spring breakers" from traveling to their city. And on the Cocktail List article I added 2 drinks that seemed to consume my life in Cacun, The Miami Vice (Pina Coloda and Strawberry Daiquiri) and The Superman (Pina Coloda, Strawberry Daiquiri, and Blue Curaco). Give em a try, they are real doozies...Cheers, right Professor? O and I also heard this is a real awesome website so you should check it out as well stiuqxela

G-TOWN BABY!

Looking at Tim Harrington's blog, and concentrating on his very first blog where he proclaimed UCLA Bruins would be 2007 NCAA Champions, I would just like to say that I pulling for the Bruins as well. Let me rephrase that however, because I am routing for them to get to the championship purely for points sake in my pool on CBS Sportsline, in the end though just like I have predicting in my pool we will see the Hoyas prevail in the Championship against Tim's very own, beloved Bruins! Go get 'em G-TOWN BAAAAABAAAAY!

Facebook Article

In a recent article from Scobleizer- Geek Blog, the author spoke of how facebook came about hiring their new head of security at facebook. Apparently this computer wiz had the audacity to hack into facebook, corrupting the system. Facebook was so impressed that they then hired this "hacker" to fix the problems and then head up secuirty for the site. Seems very strange and unconventional that they would hire this type of criminal to head up a department for thei website, but I guess I assume that in order to be the best you had to have the best, and facebook seemed to find one of the best hackers in the market to protect them from later hacker/virus strikes. Looking at the posts for this article it seems to be that other hi-tech corporations are doing things along the same line to to find individuals that can crack their codes, to then make them stronger in the end, however it is not the profession for everyone and should be thought out carefully because people have been thrown into jail for trying to "find" employment the exact same way. Check it out... EMPLOYMENT AT FACEBOOK

Wiki Bristol Edit

I most recently added some information on the wikipedia page of my hometown of Bristol, CT. There in Bristol, every August the Northeast Regional Little League Tournament is held at a local little league. However, the name was not available, so I added the name of the Little League where the tournament is held, "The A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Center." From there I also removed some pictures in the gallery that were not appearing as anything more then a blank black image. I hope to eventually get some more images up on the gallery to really show the great features of my hometown, but thats for another edit entirely.Bristol,CT Edit

Google Phone?

Looking at John Battelle's Searchblog, one of the required class blogs, I discovered an article speaking of a GOOGLE PHONE? Google and Samsung have been rumored to team up together to create a phone with the nickname "Switch" that will create mobile versions of Goggle search, Google map, and GMail. This seems a little crazy to be honest though. With the constant hype about the new phone to be introduced by Apple, the iTalk, in late June 2008, it seems that the Google Phone may be looking at a early flop. With everyone so excited about the Apple Phone before it is even released, due to the fact that Apple has produced so many reliable products before, it seems to be a project with Google that may be an immediate failure.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

After class when we spoke of "Vanity Searches" where you search for yourself on Google, and I made the comment of doin such a thing in my previous class, where I then preceded to perhaps insult my main man Professor Brown with my comments about the professors from the other class :-) Sorry for that by the way big guy your the BEST and I too love Barbaro. Anyways back to the vanity serach, looking at Google the same results came up as before, a Dr. Stephen Ward Associate Professor of Journalism Ethics as well as many more, it was not until later pages that I found some articles on myself for high school sports from my hometown newspaper. Going to individual sites and searching myself though did create more buzz such as "Webshots" where I came across some pictures of both myself and my brother, who goes to Northeastern University, that I have never seen before. With everyone now having their own homepages and profiles on both Myspace and Facebook it should be easy to find yourself on a simple search on Google...so I advise everyone to do so and see what develops from a simple google action...Enjoy

Wiki Fix for Dumb and Dumber

I have just conquered my first wikipedia edit on the Dumb and Dumber article, for those who live in a box and have never seen the film, it is a classic "slapstick/ gross-out" comedy from 1994 featuring two amazing comedians of the time and still today, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Through the edit I added some more actors and actresses along with the characters they played onto the cast list presented on this page. This is one of my favorite movies of all times, and believe I can offer alot to the wiki article so check it out...Dumb and Dumber Edit!

Numero Uno

So here it is...first post of the semester! I am a Junior at the University of Delaware studying Marketing, name is Steve but no one really calls me by that. People usually refer to me by my last name...Ward, Wardo, S Ward...I have also been cold multiple other names that probably shouldnt be posted on the web as well :-)

Little about myself, I love sports of all sorts really, from playing them all, to sitting down on the couch and watching SportsCenter five times in a row just to make sure I didnt miss anything. I live in Bristol, CT as well so have even seen the ESPN studio and SportsCenter live in action about 5 times as well. Love Wendy's and McDonald $1 menu because lets be honest there is nothing more satisfy then snarfing down a Double Cheeseburger for a dollar when a single cheeseburger is $1.49...I mean thats just common sense.

Well Hope you have all enjoyed! Stay tuned for more! One
